Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Miscellaneous) Supervisory Directions, 2026
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Miscellaneous) Supervisory Directions, 2026, effective immediately upon issuance, consolidating various supervisory, governance, customer protection, fraud prevention, vigilance, and compliance requirements applicable to Commercial Banks. The Directions provide a comprehensive supervisory framework covering access to banks IT systems by RBI, monitoring of end-use of funds, Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) Framework, fair practices in charging of interest, management of inoperative accounts and unclaimed deposits, nomination facilities, fraud prevention measures, protected disclosure (whistleblower) mechanism, vigilance framework, and vigilance monitoring returns. They also prescribe governance standards relating to internal controls, legal compliance, forensic scrutiny, staff accountability, risk management, and reporting obligations. The Directions aim to strengthen prudential supervision, improve governance and transparency, enhance customer protection, prevent frauds and malpractices, and ensure the overall safety, soundness, and integrity of the banking system.
