RBI Updates

Reserve Bank of India (Local Area Banks - Supervisory Returns) Directions, 2026.

The Reserve Bank of India (Local Area Banks – Supervisory Returns)
Directions, 2026, issued on July 31, 2026, establish a standardized framework for
the submission of supervisory returns by Local Area Banks. The Directions
strengthen Board and Senior Management oversight of data governance, require
robust IT infrastructure and data quality controls, and mandate that all supervisory
returns be submitted electronically through RBI's designated reporting portals within
prescribed timelines.
The Directions prescribe various periodic and event-based returns, including Asset
Liability Exposures (ALE), Operating Results (ROR), Risk-Based Supervision (RBS),
Capital Adequacy (RCA-1), Asset Quality (RAQ), CRILC, Fraud Monitoring Returns
(FMR), and Return on Defaulted Borrowers (RDB). They also specify filing timelines,
reporting exceptions, and penalties for delayed or inaccurate submissions, while
repealing earlier supervisory return instructions to create a uniform, technology-
driven reporting framework for Local Area Banks.
